Approach & Credentials
“Love has an immense ability to help heal the devastating wounds that life sometimes deals us. Love also enhances our sense of connection to the larger world. Loving responsiveness is the foundation of a truly compassionate, civilized society.”
—Dr. Sue Johnson—
Individuals: My work with individuals is integrative, attachment-focused, and experiential. My goal is to help individuals get to the heart of what keeping them stuck, leading to increased balance and long lasting change. I have received training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT), specifically with a trauma focus. Additionally, I am trained in EMDR, an integrative psychotherapy approach that is widely researched and an effective modality for the treatment of trauma, including physical, sexual, verbal and emotional abuse, recent and relational trauma. EMDR is well known for treating distress associated with traumatic memories, but is also effective for addressing symptoms related to depression, anxiety and overall feelings of disconnection or feeling stuck. For more information on EMDR, visit www.emdria.com.
Couples: Regardless of what stage in the relationship (from crisis to newly wed to premarital), I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples create healing safety. By focusing on the emotions underlying interactions, that often leave couples feeling stuck, EFT promotes more honest and vulnerable interactions, improves communication and strengthens the relational bond and each partner's sense of safety in the relationship. For more information on EFT, visit www.iceeft.com.
